The sky was clear and the weather stayed dry for the 130 women who congregated to glow in the dark at Chantry Park in Sue Ryder Care’s first ever Ipswich Midnight Walk on Saturday 13 September.
The night started with a warm up led by the Sue Ryder Care Fundraising team before the women all set out at a fair pace, listening to ‘Here comes the girls’. The 10 kilometer course started from Gala Bingo and took walkers to the Hadleigh Road entrance of Chantry Park. The Park was glowing as the ladies all donning their glow in the dark jewelry walked their way around the flashing lit cause, with fire acts performing some superb artistry in the full moon light.
Along the way the ladies were cheered on by Sue Ryder Care staff and volunteers at various points of the course.
Lynette, who was walking with her daughter said: “We thought the walk was a fantastic idea when we heard about it, especially as it’s the first Glow in the dark Midnight Walk that has been done in Ipswich. It was really well organised and a really good way to spend my birthday. We will definitely be signing up to next years walk. It was just a fantastic experience for such a worth while cause.”
There was amazing camaraderie with all the women encouraging each other along the way.
Georgina Carr, Event organiser said: The money raised from tonight’s event will allow Sue Ryder Care to deliver more care to people living with neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease, Stroke, Brain Injury and cancer so they can enjoy the best possible quality of life for as long as they have. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers, security staff and Gala Bingo for all their help tonight, we really appreciated there hard work and support.”
Georgina continued: “It was such an amazing sight to see all these women in bright orange t-shirts glowing beautifully and taking part in the walk and enjoying themselves so much. The night was full of fun and laughter, and a good time was had by all.”
