BAE Systems Cyclists...Thank you Ferry Much!

1 October 2008

The team led by cycling enthusiast and keen triathlete Alan Minister have managed to raise a whopping £6388 so far and are already planning the route for 2009! The cyclists set out on their 555 mile (893 km) adventure from their New Malden site at the start of Bike Week on Monday 16th June 2008.

The route took them via 11 of the BAE Systems sites across the south coast via Gravesend, Chelmsford, Stevenage and that was just day one! They then headed west to cross the country, passing through the beautiful Cotswolds and a short stay in Ross-on-Wye before heading briefly into South Wales on Day 3. Back over the Severn Crossing to the third site visit at Filton, on to Yeovil, Dorchester, Swanage, Christchurch, New Forest then another ferry to take them to the Isle of Wight. Another Ferry to Portsmouth, Waterlooville before winding their way through the Hampshire countryside for a ninth site visit in time for a decent luncheon at Frimley.  Quickly on to Sunbury, then home in time for tea & medals and the eleventh site visit - back where it all started at New Malden...PHEW!

The team would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who helped along the way and for making this years event such a huge success.

Andy Nakonecznyj, Area Fundraising Manager for London, recently visited New Malden to be presented with a cheque and meet the cyclists. Andy said "Our thanks to everyone involved in this brilliant fundraising event. The money will make a real difference to the work in our care centres and we look forward to hearing all about the next cycling adventure!".
