Sue Ryder Care launches new specialist music and books shop

10 October 2008

Music and literary fans in Cheadle looking for that long lost record and bargains on books need look no more, thanks to Sue Ryder Care.  We have officially re-opened our shop on Stockport Road as a specialist music and books shop.

For the opening on Saturday 10 October, shop staff and volunteers, who were dressed in musical themed outfits, welcomed people to join in the fun and come along and enjoy live music from local bands, as well as a special performance by X-factor star, Emma Chawner.  Emma, who is a volunteer at Sue Ryder Care’s nearby Ramsbottom shop, appeared on ITV’s X-factor finale show in 2007 as one of the singers who didn’t get through the first stage of the competition but whose singing was deemed so bad it was good!

The revamped shop is packed to the rafters with musical instruments, records, CDs and a wide selection of books that will appeal to everybody.  And, record players are available for shoppers to listen to their favourite albums before they purchase them.  The shop is the first of its kind launched by Sue Ryder Care, responding to the needs of the local community to help the charity continue to raise much needed funds to help continue to deliver expert care for people living with conditions including cancer, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis and stroke.

Manager at the Sue Ryder Care shop in Cheadle, Paul Bradley, said, “Shoppers will be delighted by the exceptional quality and value of the music, musical instruments and books we will be selling.  The shop promises to be a veritable treasure trove of bargains – with something for everybody.”

Al money raised through the Sue Ryder Care shop in Cheadle will help Sue Ryder Care continue to deliver expert and compassionate care for people living with serious illnesses at the charity’s 14 care centres, as well as community based services, across the UK.

Paul added, “We are currently recruiting volunteers to help with everything from sorting and preparing stock to merchandising and sales – so I’d like to encourage anybody who has a passion for music and books or would like to gain invaluable work experience to please get in touch.  And, of course, if people have any unwanted books, CDs and records please do donate them to us.  By supporting Sue Ryder Care in this way, local people can help us to make a real difference to the lives of the thousands of people we care for each year.”
