Thorpe Hall Hospice benefits from Queensgate retailers going yellow and raising an amazing £1724.80
30 October 2008
Retailers at Queensgate Shopping Centre celebrated World Hospice and Palliative Care Day in October with a “Go Yellow Day” to raise an amazing £1724.80 for local charity Sue Ryder Care - Thorpe Hall Hospice. The aim of the day was to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world and to raise awareness, understanding and funds. Don Millers put together some tasty yellow treats to raise some cash for the cause, and Love Juice walked round the shopping centre selling yellow drinks. Once shoppers’ bellies were full they could take part in other yellow activities to support the hospice. Clinton Cards sold over 300 yellow balloons on the day with 50p per a balloon being donated to the charity. Lush held a lucky dip all day with the proceeds joining the fund and Pumpkin Patch sold yellow quizs to top up the fundraising total. ‘Jem’s Hip Hop’ also raised funds by collecting lose change form passers by who stopped to watch their dancing performances. The Go Yellow Day was the latest fundraiser organized by Queensgate Shopping centre as part of their Platinum Pledge to support Sue Ryder Care and raise an amazing £20,000 in 2008. Queensgate have already showed their support to the local charity this year by sponsoring the Ride for Ryder bike ride earlier this month, by donating £5,900 raised through staff fundraising and selling over 1500 jute bags at the information point resulting in over £3,000 being added to the fundraising total. Julie Steels – Business Development Manager said “We’re proud to be a Platinum supporter of Sue Ryder Care and intend to do everything that we can to raise the profile of the charity and raise as much money as possible to support the excellent work that they do in the local community. The Go Yellow Day was a lot of hard work and fun. We are now looking forward to our next event, the Queensgate Wrap where we will be offering a Christmas present wrapping service in exchange for donations to Sue Ryder Care!”
