SUE RYDER CARE THORPE HALL HOSPICE REQUIRES SANTAS LITTLE HELPERS

30 October 2008

Sue Ryder Care - Thorpe Hall Hospice is asking people and companies in the Peterborough area if they would be willing to donate just 3 hours of their time to help them raise £8,000 this Christmas. The charity requires volunteers to help them at two different locations throughout December.  The first is at Queensgate Shopping Centre where the charity will be easing the burden of peoples Christmas preparations this year by wrapping people’s gifts.

The stand will open on Saturday November 22nd at 10.00am and run through until Christmas on Saturdays & Sundays from 10 – 4pm and Thursdays from 5 -8pm. The stand will also be open every day during the last week before Christmas Monday 15th through to Tuesday 23rd.

Emma Long, Fundraiser from Sue Ryder Care, said “It costs £2 million per year to run Thorpe Hall Hospice and half of this has to be raised through fundraising. This is a fantastic opportunity to have been given by Queensgate to raise a lot of money so I hope lots of people will be able to help us make it a great success.” Emma continued “The stand will be manned by volunteers throughout the festive period. We have 188 three hour slots that need filling so we are appealing to people to come and give us three hours of their time to help us raise vital funds.” The second location is Serpentine Green Shopping Centre where for the fourth year running the charity will have its Lights of Love stand where shoppers can make a dedication in memory of someone they love. The Lights of Love stand will open at 10.00 am on Monday December 1st and run through to December 23rd. It will be open Monday – Saturday 10.00am 7.00 pm and Sundays 10.00am – 4.00pm. Emma Long fundraiser at Sue Ryder Care said “As with the Christmas Wrap we are asking people to donate three hours of their time to help us man the stand. If people want to volunteer at Christmas but there wrapping skills are not up to scratch this is ideal for them. All they need to do is except donations from anybody who wish to make a dedication.” If you feel you can spare three hours to help Sue Ryder Care raise £8,000 please contact the fundraising department on 01733 330060 or email thorpe.fundraising@suerydercare.org
