Southern Electric, Gala Bingo and Sue Ryder Care are offering consumers the chance to ‘go green and save money’ by giving away 3 million energy saving light bulbs

3 November 2008

Launched on 3 November, the month-long campaign’s aim is to encourage consumers to switch to energy efficient light bulbs to save money, energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

Total cost savings across the UK will be £11,200,000, enough to pay the energy bills of 9,300 families.

Total electricity saved will be enough to power 25,900 family households per year.  And, the free light bulbs will save 39,200 tonnes of CO2 per year.

And, by simply plugging in the light bulbs consumers will find out if they have a lucky green bulb and have won an eco friendly Toyota Prius car or £1000 to spend at the Southern Electric online store.

As part of the initiative there will be a ‘Giant’ energy saving light bulb road show, which will be travelling throughout the country visiting Gala clubs and Sue Ryder Care shops to raise awareness of the importance of the campaign.  And, in-line with the campaign’s green ethos, Sue Ryder Care is encouraging the idea of re-use and encouraging people to donate unwanted items to their local Sue Ryder Care shop in return for free energy efficient bulbs.
