Bradford based artist Stevan Tica has picked up his chisel to sculpt to the theme of Liberation to support Sue Ryder Care’s Art Liberating Lives event which is entering its fourth year. Art Liberating Lives reflects the importance of art as therapy in Sue Ryder Care’s six hospices and eight neurological care centres.
Stevan, age 53, is a local amateur artist and has decided to support the work carried out by the charity because he has a first hand knowledge of the difficulties to care for a person with a complex condition.
“I feel that it is a privilege to be part of a national event for such a worthy cause. One of my own children has cerebral palsy and I recognise the valuable work that charities such as yours do”, Stevan explained.
“I am the primary carer for my disabled daughter and I also work evenings at a local supermarket. Consequently I find that my art gives me a sense of liberation and a freedom from everyday pressures! I chose to carve an ammonite because I am fascinated at how it has been freed from the earth after so many millions of years, to be appreciated and marveled at today”, he added.
