Cutlery at the read

20 October 2008

Sue Ryder Care is delighted to accept a collection of new cutlery, worth £5,000, generously donated by the Worshipful Company of Cutlers’ Charitable Trust.  The cutlery will be distributed amongst the healthcare charity’s six hospices nationwide, and put into good use by staff, volunteers and patients at Sue Ryder Care as they tuck into delicious home cooked meals.

Money saved as a result of the donation of cutlery will help Sue Ryder Care to continue to deliver expert and compassionate care to people living with progressive, far advanced, life shortening conditions such as cancer.

Samantha Cheverton, Care Centre Manager at Sue Ryder Care - Wheatfields Hospice, said, “We are thrilled that the Worshipful Company of Cutlers’ Charitable Trust has decided to support Sue Ryder Care in this way.  Our catering team has received much praise for its excellent cooking by staff, volunteers and patients - and our meals will taste that extra bit more special eating them with our new cutlery!

“Here at Wheatfields hospice we can enjoy great dishes thanks to our talented cook Norman Cox and his team. We provide about 60 meals a day for staff, in-patients and volunteers. Thanks to the donation by the Worshipful Company of Cutlers’ Charitable Trust, the saving on the cutlery needed means the charity can invest more money to keep on providing its services for the people that need them most.”

The Worshipful Company of Cutlers is one of the most ancient of the City of London livery companies and its charitable arm is committed to provide support for projects beneficial to the community.

John Prynne, Chairman of the Trustees, said, “We are delighted to have been able to give tangible support to Sue Ryder Care in this way, and trust that our gift of cutlery will help everyone to enjoy their food all the more.”

Sue Ryder Care needs to raise £13 million in voluntary income each year to continue to deliver four million hours of care at specialist palliative, neurological and community based services nationwide.
